Growth should come with a warning label. Not to dissuade anyone from starting, but just to let them know what lies ahead.

For some, growth is a luxury, a curiosity-based exploration into the further reaches of human potential. For others, growth is a necessity, driven by the consistent and crushing emotional weight of unresolved trauma and pain, to the point where a journey through the fire becomes the only viable option.

Mine was more of a necessity.

A commitment to growth signs you up for a process of learning and unlearning, of discovering and uncovering, of defining and re-defining, of anxiously diving into the deep end of your emotional pool while questioning your ability to swim.

And knowing nobody is coming to save you once you hit the water.

The journey through my own fires has been a challenging and meandering undertaking, at times me questioning if I’ve actually moved forward at all. Contentious conversations with the Universe and with myself echo within, frustrated by being stuck in a tunnel doubting the existence of a light actually being at the end of it. And further frustrated wondering how the hell I ended up in a tunnel in the first place.

The path forward is a path of isolation. No one fully understands. No one hears the inner screams. No one feels the pain of attempting to undo what currently is to make room for what could possibly be.

No one can walk this path for you.

All you can hope for is to find a safe space to evolve, a space where you’re given room to learn and unlearn, to discover and uncover, to define and re-define. A safe space for you to grow into you.

We are blessed when others give us such a space. Often they are the rare ones who’ve walked or are walking through their own fires, their perspective and understanding forged by a similar pain. I’m grateful for the gift of those evolving seekers who I’ve met along my path, sharing their insights, wisdom, and encouragement.

The need to grow and evolve, though, can often be unsupported and even criticized, creating another layer of isolating pain to work through. It’s a not-so-subtle reminder that this is your work to do, your fire to walk through, your hole to claw your way out of. Just another non-glorious part of the growth process.

Given the deeply personal nature of this journey, ultimately we are the ones who need to create such a kind, compassionate, understanding, encouraging, loving, and accepting space within ourselves.

For ourselves.

Our own sacred space to unfold.
