It can appear subtle, even innocuous. Yet to the recipient the impact of their words and actions can profoundly influence the direction of a life.

Life can lull us into settling in, where making peace with the less-than-desirable situations is preferred to the isolation of standing your ground and honoring the vision and the intention of the life you’ve told yourself you want to create. There is a level of comfort in surrendering and accepting, until you’re eventually made uncomfortable as you’re reminded of the price you’ve paid for your emotional appeasement.

For those willing to move forward with an intentional life, those intentions are often tested in order to evaluate just how committed you actually are. The Universe knows that talk is indeed very cheap. It’s quite easy to espouse your intentions, but it’s a whole different story if you’re actually willing to live them.

Tests can take many different forms, but it’s often the ones from an unexpected source which will indicate just how committed to your vision you actually are.

We know they love us. Yet their words will sting. Their words will hurt. Their words will knock you on your ass then stand over you awaiting your decision to either get up and keep moving forward or abandon your vision all together.

On your back you will choose the direction of your life.

They don’t hand out colorful brochures detailing the challenges you’ll face when you sign up to live your most authentic life. Because if they did, a vast majority would place the brochure back on the counter and return to living the life they’ve settled for. While we hope that those around us will be the primary sources of support along our journey, sometimes it’s their unwillingness to do so which reminds us that our journey to living the life we know we are called to live is a journey we must be willing to walk alone at times.

A painful lesson.

An important lesson.

It will test your commitment, it will test your resolve.

Sometimes you need to be reminded what you’re fighting for.
